If you love the look of your leather furniture, you probably want to keep it as clean as possible. Additionally, you probably want it to smell good as well. You can make a leather conditioner and cleaner with a few simple ingredients and a spray bottle. This guide explains what you'll need and how to create the natural solution and use it.

Step 1: Confirm That You Have Leather Furniture

Before beginning this project, make sure that your furniture is in fact leather. This recipe doesn't work on suede or other types of material because it is a liquid and can stretch out the material.

Step 2: Gather Your Supplies

Look around your house for some olive oil, apple cider vinegar and a spray bottle. If you don't have these items at home, go to the store and pick them up along with some essential oil. The oil will negate the smell of the vinegar and is optional. The vinegar smell does not last long, so if you prefer not to use it, it won't be a problem.

Step 3: Combine the Ingredients

Fill the spray bottle three quarters of the way with vinegar and fill the remaining space with olive oil. Attach the lid and shake the bottle well until the olive oil and vinegar mix completely.

Step 4: Mix in the Essential Oil

If you are using essential oil, remove the lid and add a few drops of it to the olive oil and vinegar mix, then replace the lid and shake again.

Step 5: Apply it to the Leather

Dust off your leather furniture with a rag. Spray the mix on the furniture and use a clean cotton cloth to rub it into the surface. Be sure that you spray sparingly so that you don't have a puddle of the liquid sitting on the surface.

Step 6: Allow Time to Dry

Give the furniture some time to dry before allowing family or pets on the furniture. A couple hours should be long enough for the homemade leather conditioner and cleaner to dry and condition the leather appropriately.

Even though vinegar and olive oil are natural and safe ingredients for leather, it might be a good idea to test this mixture out on a hidden spot to ensure that no discoloration takes place. Check with cleaning experts, such as Quality Discount Maid Services, if you have any issues with these steps or if you can't tell whether you have real leather or faux-leather.
